Public Talks

These talks are designed for the general public and as such have a high entertainment content whilst preserving perfectly accurate science. I give talks to many adult community groups, associations and societies, where I have addressed audiences in excess of 400 people at a time.

Rocks from space.

This is a talk about, comets meteors meteorites and asteroids. I describe each of these objects, explaining what they are and where they come from. With the asteroids I refer to both the Dinosaur extinction and the possible threat to our civilisation. I have actual meteorites for examination by audiences.

Life the Universe and Everything

I tell the story of our entire universal history from the ‘Big bang’ to the end of the universe, including star and planet birth, galaxies, light speed and pretty well all those questions you want to know about but are afraid to ask.

Mars ( to be ready for ’11)

A life of Mars. Early ideas about Mars, the ‘canali’ debate. Outlining the present knowledge, the more recent discoveries and our imminent habitation of the planet.

Constellations

A fairly straightforward description of the constellations, describing the patterns and where they appear in the heavens and the myths associated with them. Again, a bias towards the entertainment factor. Clearly this could be used in conjunction with actual observations (perhaps making a fifth talk)
